Rick Burgess recalls that the best part of grade school for him was the homemade rolls the lunch room made. He says that “the first lady would not be happy about that.”
As he transitioned into high school, Rick was a member of the football team but also his love of music led him to associate with the band folks as well. “I moved around and did not identify with any one group”, Rick says.
Rick got the radio bug early in his life. “I wanted to be on the radio from the time I was kid. I was totally intrigue with everything about it. I got my shot in 1984 at the age of 20 at the campus radio station at Jacksonville State University I went on the air at 1390 WHMA in Anniston Alabama in 1985 for my first paying job and we started on WLWI in 2011.
Rick and his family hunt and fish on their family farm and he states that if he was not in radio as a career, he would probably be homeless!
And when it comes to supporting non-profit groups, Rick and his family “sponsor children through World Vision, work with our local church, Jimmie Hale Mission, and Dulous Partners. Our desire is to be involved with charities that are the hands and feet of Jesus.”
Most memorable radio moment so far? “The first day that Bubba and I did the first show as Rick and Bubba, played no music and started taking calls. I also will be scarred forever by our trip to Los Angeles with Willie and Wanda.”

Best car…. BMW 645i w rag top…….., followed closely by my Ford F 350 diesel truck w 250k+ miles on it. She’s just getting broke in !
Best vacation spot: Gulf Shores…or Maui if I have time to get there.
Best time to shop for groceries: 4 am weekdays… Haha. I’m up anyway.What famous person would I still like to meet and what question would I
ask him/her? Of course Jesus Christ, then Ronald Regan, currently on Earth…. President Obama….. Question …. Really?
My daily fear is: Will someone bring breakfast to the studio?
