I-92 WLWI invites your family to join us for ZOO WEEKEND, this weekend (March 11th and 12th) at the Montgomery Zoo.
Hours both days are from 9AM until 6PM.
A press release from the zoo gives details on what to expect:
The two-day event features a festival-style environment with live entertainment, rides, games, inflatables, animal presentations, and tasty treats. The family friendly event also features a rock climbing wall and the Jo Don Petting Zoo where guests can touch and feed animals as well as ride ponies and camels. Representatives from the City of Montgomery Fire and Police departments will be on site with a fire truck and smokehouse for guests to view up close.
Fly high over the zoo on the Zoofari Skylift, an open air ride offering spectacular views of the entire 42 acre facility. Take a ride around the perimeter of the zoo on the miniature train or cruise around the lake in a pedal boat. Feed 18 foot tall giraffes at the Giraffe Encounter Post and walk amongst flutter of wings in Parakeet Cove.
Started in 1976 to raise funds to support capital improvement projects, Zoo Weekend is a cherished tradition in the River Region. Throughout the years, proceeds from this event have supported the construction of new habitats for African elephants, American alligators, and North American river otters. The event also serves as a membership drive for the zoo with discounted annual membership rates that are too good to pass up. Discounted membership rates available March 6-19, 2017.
The Montgomery Zoo and the Montgomery Area Zoological Society are in the final stages of fundraising for a new interactive aquatic exhibit named Stingray Bay. Construction on Stingray Bay began in February 2017 with an anticipated completion of fall 2017. The touch tank will offer guests the opportunity to interact with live stingrays and feed them during designated feeding times. The facility will be located between the Mann Wildlife Learning Museum and the chimpanzee exhibit.
Entertainment for Zoo Weekend will feature a variety of local acts, area dance groups, karate demonstrations, animal presentations from the Montgomery Zoo Education Department, and a special demonstration from the City of Montgomery Police Department K-9 Unit. Don’t miss special guest appearances by Ronald McDonald, McGruff the Crime Dog, and Zoobeedoo. Performances scheduled for the main events stage include Whitney Wolanin, Down to My Last, Johnson, Tatyana Webb, Jason Givens, Sid Phillips, and All You Need.
